DescriptionL-2-Hydroxyglutaric acid, also known as (S)-2-hydroxyglutarate or 2-hydroxy-(S)-pentanedioate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as short-chain hydroxy acids and derivatives. These are hydroxy acids with an alkyl chain the contains less than 6 carbon atoms. L-2-Hydroxyglutaric acid exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. L-2-Hydroxyglutaric acid, with regard to humans, has been found to be associated with several diseases such as eosinophilic esophagitis and d, l-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria; L-2-hydroxyglutaric acid has also been linked to several inborn metabolic disorders including l-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria and d-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on L-2-Hydroxyglutaric acid.
