Sugar acids and derivatives are compounds containing a saccharide unit which bears a carboxylic acid group. 2-Phosphoglyceric acid is possibly soluble (in water) and an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 2-Phosphoglyceric acid exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans.
